These references and resources will be helpful to you in preparing for the Praxis Physical Education Subject Assessment/Specialty Area Exams. I encourage you to consult these or similar texts while preparing for the Physical Education Exams. In some cases, more recent editions of the books are available, but the editions I have listed will meet your preparation needs. Besides, you might be able to pick up the older editions at a discount! Also, don't forget to use college and university libraries. If your library doesn't have a copy of a textbook you want to use try interlibrary loan. If you want to but books online, I recommend Amazon.com or VarsityBooks.com. I often get asked to narrow down my recommendations to one or two key books. If you must limit yourself to one book I recommend Mohnsen's Concepts of Physical Education: What Every Student Needs to Know. The second edition of that book has just been published and it is available from AAHPERD's Online Store. Although the book, A-Level Physical Education: the Reflective Performer, was produced for studying physical education in England and Wales, it may serve as a handy reference for test takers in the U.S. You can get the book is from Human Kinetics. In addition, there is an online study guide posted at http://www.humankinetics.com/courses/alevelpe/index.cfm. The book and study guide covers on pedagogy, history, sociology, biomechanics, motor learning, physiology, and sport psychology. Another way to study is to review an introduction to physical education texts or one of the motor development textbooks I have listed below. However, if at all possible you should review all areas of the physical education knowledge base. In many cases I have listed older editions of these texts than are currently available. It may be possible for you to check some of these books out from a college library or purchase used books at at discount. If you are still in college I recommend that you keep your textbooks!
